Viktor Gutsko, Chairman of the Architecture Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee, noted that the general condition of residential buildings in the capital is very good, as many buildings have undergone timely major repairs and insulation.
Due to this, mass demolition of housing, including «Khrushchev-era buildings,» is not planned for now — they remain in the schedules of regular maintenance. Only individual two— or three-story houses might be subject to renovation.
The city authorities are focusing mainly on former industrial zones. They plan to redevelop the territories of factories that are no longer operating to meet the city's needs. These sites are intended to be offered to businesses to attract new investments to Minsk and give a second life to unused lands.
Earlier, Minister of Architecture and Construction Alexander Studnev cited figures regarding the condition of «Khrushchev-era buildings» in the country. According to him, there are more than two and a half thousand such houses in Belarus, most of which are panel buildings. In Minsk alone, there are about 900 panel buildings constructed between 1955 and 1975. Their service life, which is 25 years according to standards, has long expired.
That is why the issue of renewing the housing stock has become one of the key tasks of the state construction program for 2026-2030.
