Unlike Typhoons, which carry out strikes and patrols in Iraq and Syria, F-35B aircraft are being deployed as a safeguard in case of a sharp increase in tensions.
On February 6, the US Embassy in Tehran urged its citizens to urgently leave the country and have an evacuation plan via land borders if air travel ceases. Earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened a "very strong strike" on Iran and announced the deployment of a large flotilla with an aircraft carrier to Iranian shores.
The US is also deploying additional air defense systems, including THAAD, to protect troops and allies from possible strikes from Iran. In turn, Tehran warned that a new US attack would lead to a regional war and promised strikes on American bases in the Persian Gulf.
Against this backdrop, on February 6, negotiations between US and Iranian representatives on the nuclear program began in Oman. On February 7, Trump stated that Iran "very much wants to make a deal," but the US demands a complete halt to Iran's development of nuclear weapons. After the talks, Washington imposed new sanctions against Iranian oil exports.
