In Budapest, a canvas was discovered which, according to experts, is a previously unknown work by the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh. This was stated by art historian Zsófia Végvári, head of the painting research laboratory.

The canvas was discovered during the study of several works presented by a foreign collector. According to the expert, it is possible that another version of the famous painting 'The Dance Hall in Arles,' dated 1888, has been found. The original is located in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Preliminary analysis of the paints, canvas, and primer suggests that the work was created between 1885 and 1890 and could indeed belong to Van Gogh's brush. Végvári reminded that the artist often painted several versions of the same composition, which he mentioned in letters to his brother Theo.
As the online publication Blikk notes, if the painting's authenticity is confirmed, the discovery will be one of the most significant in 21st-century art. The head of the laboratory has not yet disclosed the name of the painting's owner or the circumstances of its appearance in the collection.
