At a press conference, Magyar said that in such a conversation, he would ask Putin to "finally stop the killings" and end the war against Ukraine. He immediately added that he doesn't believe such a conversation will even happen, and if it does, it will likely be short, writes Bild.
According to Magyar, the war against Ukraine makes no sense even for Russia itself, as it has already led to the deaths of tens of thousands of Russian servicemen and ruined the lives of many families. He also spoke about destroyed Ukrainian cities, killed civilians, and violence.
However, the future head of government made it clear that under his leadership, Budapest would still strive for pragmatic relations with Moscow, primarily due to Hungary's dependence on Russian energy resources and the Paks NPP expansion project.
Magyar emphasized that the new government intends to review all agreements with Russia: if necessary, they will be revised, renegotiated, or completely canceled.
At the same time, he made it clear that he does not intend to be the first to call Donald Trump, although he considers the USA an important partner for Hungary.
Instead, Magyar said he would be happy to see American leadership in Budapest for the anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian uprising.
