Remains of an ancient building and 17th-century artifacts found in the center of Pinsk by utility workers

In the center of Pinsk, during the replacement of heating networks, remains of an ancient building with a stove and other historical artifacts have been discovered, BelTA reports.

“When the excavation work began, we suspected that we might find remains of 19th-century wooden buildings. However, everything turned out to be much deeper. Workers were digging a trench and found fragments of a cultural layer: remains of broken pottery, and a very interesting object was visible in the wall profile. When we came here to investigate, we realized that what we actually had was the second half of the 17th century. We found the remains of a building with a stove, located at a significant depth, and the under-stove pit was filled with various artifacts. These are fragments of broken pottery and metal products,” representatives of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences said.

Thanks to the research, archaeologists concluded that this area had been continuously settled since the second half of the 17th century and Pinsk expanded towards the modern railway station.

Scientists emphasize that Pinsk possesses a rich cultural layer. This city is a pearl of Belarus and Polesie not only in tourist but also in scientific terms.
