According to human rights activists, Tamashov was held in a disciplinary isolation cell for some time.
The man was detained in May 2024, likely in Sevastopol. He was accused of allegedly transmitting information to Ukrainian special services about the deployment and movement of Russian troops and equipment, as well as disloyalty to Russia's policies. The verdict was delivered by a court in Sevastopol.
Human rights activists from the Crimean Tatar Resource Center note that after his detention, Aliaksei Tamashov was subjected to forced psychiatric observation, and the verdict itself did not contain specifically formulated accusations. It was effectively asserted that he might have transmitted something or caused harm, but precise evidence for this was not provided in the ruling.
