Student, scared by fraudsters' threats, took $30 thousand from pensioners and took it abroad
Criminal investigation officers detained a 19-year-old student who became both a victim and a courier for fraudsters, the metropolitan police report.
The student was tricked using an email scheme. He received a call supposedly from the dean's office asking for his email address to send documents. But instead, the student received a letter stating that he had been "hacked."
To save his data, he clicked on a link and ended up in a chat with a fake "E-service" portal. Unaware of what the real portal looked like, the young man believed the fraudsters and began following their instructions.
He went to two addresses where he took about $30,000 from pensioners, after which, following the fraudsters' instructions, he traveled to Russia and handed all the money to another courier.
After returning to Minsk, the young man was detained. At this time, the fraudsters continued to send him messages with threats of physical violence, including against his relatives.
