The British Maritime Trade Operations Center UKMTO reported that on May 14, in an area about 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah port in the UAE, unknown armed individuals seized a vessel. After this, it changed course and headed into Iranian territorial waters.

Details about the vessel itself and its crew have not yet been disclosed.
Amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz region, Japan reported that one of its associated vessels safely passed through the strait and entered the Persian Gulf. Four Japanese sailors were on board, with several dozen other Japan-linked vessels remaining in the region.
India also condemned the attack on an Indian-flagged merchant vessel off the coast of Oman and called attacks on commercial ships unacceptable.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for commercial shipping, provided there is cooperation with the Iranian naval forces.
Amid incidents in the region, disruptions to shipping through the strait continue to affect global oil and gas prices and raise concerns among importing countries.
