In Warsaw, foreigners were checked by "patrols" in uniform who had no connection to state bodies
The case is already being handled by Warsaw police.
"Patrols" in military-like uniforms were spotted at Warsaw Central Station, stopping foreigners and trying to ascertain their identities. However, they have no connection to law enforcement agencies or other state bodies, Most writes.
The incident gained widespread attention after a video circulated online showing the patrol approaching dark-skinned individuals. The police are now investigating the matter.
Judging by the BPG patch on their sleeves, the patrols represent the right-wing group "Bronimy Polskiej Granicy" (We Defend the Polish Border). On its website, the group's goals are described, among other things, as countering "our values and our faith being destroyed and disrespected."
The appearance of the group members resembles how representatives of some law enforcement agency might look: a uniform similar in color to military attire, patches on the sleeves with the initiative's acronym, the Polish flag, and an eagle.
But they do not represent any state structure. And the patch with the group's acronym could be freely purchased for 32 zlotys on their website — it is now marked as sold out.
"There is and will be no consent for any individuals to impersonate law enforcement officers, check citizens' documents, or mimic representatives of security forces. Such behavior is unacceptable in a state governed by the rule of law," wrote Karolina Gałecka, spokesperson and director of the Ministry of Interior's communication department, on social network X.
She added that, according to Art. 227 of the Criminal Code, impersonating a public official is a crime.
"Similar actions lead to an escalation of fear and social tension, and also seriously undermine citizens' trust in the police and other security structures," she explained.
