Scottish Parliament Backs Independence Referendum

On May 26, the majority of MSPs voted to support the call by Scotland's First Minister John Swinney to the UK government.

The Scottish Parliament supported holding a referendum on independence from the United Kingdom, the Scottish government announced on social network X.

"The Scottish Parliament has voted to support calls for a Scottish independence referendum," the statement said.

According to The National, on May 26, the majority of MSPs (72 against 55) voted to support the call by Scotland's First Minister John Swinney to the UK government.

The Minister demands an order be issued in accordance with Section 30 of the Scotland Act 1998, which would transfer powers to the Scottish Parliament to organize an independence referendum.

The previous referendum took place in 2014, and at that time 53 percent voted against.
