The accident happened on the evening of June 22, the Investigative Committee reported.
Four young men arrived in the village of Krasova and were swimming in the Pripyat River. At one point, the 15-year-old schoolboy went under the water and could not surface due to the strong current.
His friends sought help from the owner of the nearest house, and the man tried to find the teenager in the river himself.
However, later, rescuers who arrived at the scene recovered the young man from the water without signs of life.
