Suicide Bomber Detonates Bomb in Pakistan. At Least 17 People Dead
At least 17 people, including five police officers, have died in northwestern Pakistan as a result of a suicide attack. The bomber crashed a rigged car into a police station building in the city of Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, reports the BBC.

The attack took place during Friday prayers. Inside the building was a mosque where police officers, their family members, and other people were praying. After the explosion, armed individuals accompanying the suicide bomber opened fire. A shootout ensued between the attackers and the police. Police shot dead one of the attackers who was wearing an explosive belt.
Provincial police chief Zulfiqar Hamid called the incident a terrorist attack carried out by a suicide bomber. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The country's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also condemned the blast.
In recent months, the activity of armed groups attacking military personnel and police has significantly increased in Pakistan's border regions. Pakistani authorities claim that militants use hideouts in Afghanistan to prepare and plan attacks. The Afghan Taliban movement, which came to power in the country, denies these accusations and states that the issue of militant activity is an internal affair of Pakistan.
