White House TV Pool Media Support CNN in Conflict with Trump. Fox News Also Joins
Brian Boughton, head of the Fox News Washington bureau, sent a letter to the media stating that the White House television pool would not cover events of US President Donald Trump, CNN reports .
"As of today, the television pool will not cover events designated as presidential pool coverage. This is in response to the White House's stance, which prevents CNN from performing its pool duties. A replacement pool will not be formed," Boughton wrote.
Five American media outlets — ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and Fox News — take turns filming the president and transmitting live broadcasts to each other and to a wider circle of both American and international media.
Brian Boughton stated in the letter that all other television programs "will continue as usual, including Congressional appearances, VIPs, and individual events in Washington and across the country."
On September 18, US President Donald Trump announced a ban on access to the White House for journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. He explained this by claiming that these media outlets were allegedly spreading "fake" materials.
On September 21, CNN, Politico, and MS NOW filed a lawsuit against the Donald Trump administration after their journalists were denied access to the White House grounds. The publications claim that the decision violates the rights to freedom of speech and the press guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
