“We will now play you a song from Machete. It’s a typical Mexican song about murder and revenge. Do you have Belarusian songs about murders?” Tito Larriva, the leader of Tito & Tarantula asked when performing in Minsk.
The concert has become one of the brightest events in Minsk’s and Belarus’ music life.
Tito & Tarantula have become famous for their participation — both musical and visual — in films of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. They had a cameo appearance in From Dusk Till Dawn playing a band in El Paso bar.
Around 400 people gathered in Minsk night club Dozari to see “Tarantino OST live.”
Tito & Tarantula are now on their European tour and visited Minsk for the first time.
The show started an hour past scheduled time. The music forced the audience at the tables to move closer to the stage.
The crazy mixture of Californian riffs, Mexican solos and heavy passages by three guitarists and a pink-haired drummer. In the end Tito said about the drummer: “I advised this Texas girl not to do heroin but to drink vodka instead.”
Mr. Larriva understood that people wants music from Tarantino’s movies, so references to Machete, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Desperado sounded in Dozari that night.
“Rodriguez always kills me in his movies,” Tito Larriva says. “When he invited me to Once Upon A Time In Mexico, I asked him not to kill me at least this time. Robert agreed and made me a taxi driver who gives Johnny Depp a lift. And I was sitting in a car, waiting for Johnny. And Robert says ‘cut!’ I told him: ’Robert, where’s Johnny?’ And he said it was a movie, we would shoot Johnny later. It’s a pity I haven’t met him.”
During the last song, Tito took around 20 persons to the stage, gave them his guitar and they all together played and sang.
“I made a mistake today — I drank vodka instead of tequila. Vodka inspires and makes me think about girls and not about music.”
