Two U.S. National Guard service members were hastily declared dead.

Two members of the U.S. National Guard who were wounded in the shooting several blocks from the White House in downtown Washington are in critical condition. This statement was made to the press by FBI Director Kash Patel.

Earlier, the Governor of West Virginia, Patrick Morrisey, stated that both servicemen had died from their injuries.

Later, however, Morrisey admitted that he had rushed and released unverified information:

"We are receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two National Guard servicemen and will provide additional information as soon as we have more complete details."
