A section of railway in an industrial zone was sold at an auction in Lida. During the bidding, the price almost doubled — to 70 thousand dollars. The seller wonders what will be done with it, writes Hrodna.life.

“We bought a railway track in Lida. In the industrial zone. And they bid fiercely. They bought the rails and sleepers for 70 thousand dollars. Moreover, it seems the buyer does not have production nearby. We wonder what they will do with them?” — it is reported on the social media of the auction platform "IPM-Torgi".

We are talking about two kilometers of railway tracks on the outskirts of the district center, on Sosnovaya Street. Along with them, eight switch points and a plot of land with an area of more than 2.3 hectares were sold.

Ideas on what can be done with the railway tracks in Lida

Users actively discussed how the recently sold dead-end railway line could be used. Various ideas were among the options.

Some suggested that the rails would simply be handed over for scrap metal. Another user noted that the railway is located in the very center of the industrial zone, with many industrial enterprises around the tracks, and the line once belonged to "Lidabudkonstruktsiya".

“Yes, maintaining a railway line is a difficult task, but whoever has the resources to acquire it will not have problems with its operation,” wrote one of the users.

And simply selling the rails for scrap metal, in his opinion, would be unwise: the money wouldn't be recouped, and attracting the attention of law enforcement would be easy.

There were also more unexpected versions. Someone suggested that the purchase could serve as "legalization of funds" obtained in a semi-legal way.

Another joked that perhaps the person dreamed of their own children's railway in childhood.

Does the buyer know something?

There were also creative ideas: someone suggested that the owner could open a railway bar on the line or organize quests or excursions there.

Another user noted that, most likely, there is an office building nearby, and the line was hindering construction due to the protected zone. By buying out the rails, one could build on the liberated land.

Most commentators leaned towards the option of using the branch for commercial purposes: placing wagons for loading and unloading and charging a fee for services.

Some suggested that the buyer possesses more complete information: for example, that fertilizer exports to the EU will soon resume.
