Belarusian-language advertising dismantled in Kaliningrad. Reportedly, it's due to a campaign against foreign languages
A photo of work near the "Beryoza u doma" store (a chain of Belarusian supermarkets in Kaliningrad) has spread across local public groups. It shows two workers peeling off glued advertising with the Belarusian inscription "Купляйце беларускае" (Buy Belarusian) from a window. A version immediately emerged that this was being done due to a recently issued new law on the Russian language in advertising.

The press service of the city administration told the local publication «Podyom» that the advertising in the published photo was being removed due to a violation of its placement rules.
«Nobody is removing signs. They are removing stickers from windows that cover the entire window. This is being done in accordance with landscaping regulations — windows cannot be completely covered with opaque stickers. As far as I know, all the signs in our city have been brought into compliance with the law, and there are no problems with this in the city».
The mayor's office promised to find out whether inscriptions in Belarusian would fall under the new law.
Russian Federal Law No. 168-FZ of June 24, 2025, requires businesses that foreign words in public materials either be duplicated by a translation of the same size and font, or be a registered trademark, service mark, or trade name.
