"Time to talk to Russia." Finnish President calls on Europe to start negotiations with Moscow

Europe must start independent negotiations with Russia, because the current American policy regarding Russia and Ukraine does not correspond to European interests. Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated this in an interview with Corriere della Sera, writes UNIAN.

"If American policy towards Russia and Ukraine does not correspond to Europe's interests, as I believe, then we must act directly. Yes, it's time to start talking to Russia. I don't know when this will happen. We have discussed with European leaders who will initiate contact," Stubb said.

He noted that it is still unknown which of the EU country leaders should conduct negotiations with Russia. "The most important thing is that everything is agreed upon among us, especially among EU countries — Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, and Poland — along with the Nordic and Baltic countries, which are on the border. Whether it will be a special envoy or a group of leaders — we will see," Stubb emphasized.

The President of Finland added that he is pessimistic about the prospects of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia being concluded this year.

Earlier, the head of the European Council, António Costa, stated that the European Union has the potential for negotiations with the Russian Federation. According to him, Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports this. Costa noted that the EU will avoid interfering in the process led by Donald Trump. He also acknowledged that no signals from the Kremlin indicated Putin's readiness for negotiations with EU representatives.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later stated that Putin is ready to negotiate with "everyone," including Europeans, but European governments must make the first move, as they broke off contacts with Moscow in 2022 after the start of the war against Ukraine.

Дык праблема ж у тым што рускія не перамоваздольныя. Размаўляць можна гадамі з імі - а сэнсу з гэтых размоваў не будзе.
