Construction of the largest airport in human history began in Dubai
In the United Arab Emirates, in Dubai, the construction of the largest airport in human history has begun. The project is called Al Maktoum International Airport and will become part of the large "Dubai World Central" complex, located in the desert southwest of the city.

The new airport will have about 400 boarding gates and five parallel runways. Its capacity will be up to 260 million passengers per year, which is more than double the figures of the largest modern airports. The project cost is estimated at approximately 35 billion dollars.
According to the concept, it will not just be an airport, but an entire transportation hub — essentially an "airport city" built from scratch in the desert. It will be approximately five times larger than the current Dubai International Airport.
One of the key features of the project is that after its completion, the current Dubai Airport, which is now one of the busiest in the world, is planned to be gradually closed. By approximately 2035, all flights are intended to be transferred to the new complex.
The current airport serves about 90 million passengers annually and has long remained a leader in international traffic. However, its development is limited by urban sprawl, so the Dubai authorities decided not to expand the old infrastructure, but to create a new one with a large reserve for the future.
Construction is progressing very quickly thanks to significant financial resources and rapid decision-making. Unlike many other countries where similar projects can drag on for decades, in Dubai they are implemented much more promptly.
Inside the airport, a modern infrastructure is planned: huge terminals, fast baggage handling systems, and even its own railway network with several stations, as the scale of the complex will be so large that moving on foot will become difficult.
The first stages of construction are planned to be completed in the early next decade, and the entire project will be implemented gradually.
In addition to the airport itself, a new city with residential areas, logistics, and commercial zones is planned to be built around it, designed for more than a million residents.
