Kalmyk Hero of Russia who became famous last year for reporting successes to Putin has died
Senior Lieutenant Naran Achir-Garaev, who commanded an assault company, was killed during combat operations in Ukraine. This was reported by Batu Khasikov, the head of Kalmykia. The deceased had received the title of Hero of Russia for his earlier participation in Russian aggression.

Naran Achir-Garaev gained wide recognition after participating in a direct line with Vladimir Putin in December 2025. There, he spoke about his unit's participation in the battles for Seversk in the Donetsk region. According to the Russian side, his company allegedly occupied more than 80 residential buildings and destroyed dozens of fortified positions of Ukrainian troops.
For these actions, Achir-Garaev was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation in 2025. The award — the "Golden Star" medal — was personally presented to him by Putin on December 17, 2025. On May 9, 2026, Achir-Garaev was present at the parade in Moscow, where he, among other things, greeted Putin.

Naran Achir-Garaev was from the city of Lagan in Kalmykia. He began his service during the war with Ukraine as a driver, and later became a commander of an assault company. The circumstances of his death have not yet been disclosed.
