US Commander in Europe Stated Putin Is Not Seeking War with NATO

Despite this, General Grinkevich, who also commands US forces in Europe, stated: "When they ask me: 'Are you ready to fight today?', I answer: 'Absolutely'."

Russia "is not seeking conflict" with NATO, stated Alexus Grinkevich, Commander-in-Chief of NATO's Allied Forces Europe, when asked about the possibility of an attack on the Baltic states. According to him, this is because Moscow understands what an "defensive alliance" is and that NATO "has a number of asymmetrical advantages," writes the Moscow Times.

Grinkevich sees his task as ensuring that "Russia understands: if it tries to do something in the Baltic states, it will not succeed." Since Moscow "knows that they will achieve nothing, they will not risk taking such actions," he added.

The US is reducing its military presence in Europe, which at the same time is striving to increase military power in light of Washington's changing priorities. An aircraft carrier strike group, all submarines equipped with cruise missiles, several P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, refueling aircraft, F-16 and F-15E fighters could be withdrawn from Europe, Die Welt newspaper reported.

Grinkevich confirmed the information about the reductions for the first time: "We are talking about air and naval forces that we, the US, need in case of a conflict situation in the Pacific region."

Despite this, the general, who also commands US forces in Europe, stated: "When they ask me: 'Are you ready to fight today?', I answer: 'Absolutely'."

European military officials express significantly greater concerns about Russia's plans in their speeches. Military and intelligence officials from the Baltic states, northeastern Europe, and Germany most frequently declare Russia's intentions or readiness to engage in armed conflict with NATO countries between now and the end of the decade.

In particular, large-scale construction of military bases has been underway along the borders of countries on NATO's eastern flank for the past two years. They can be staffed with soldiers after the war in Ukraine ends, according to Swedish military intelligence. "We do not believe they exist only for show. The point is for Russia to be ready to confront NATO in the future in the event of a larger conflict," claims its director, Thomas Nilsson.

Американцы считают европейских военных не чистыми на руку распиловщиками военных бюджетов. Гринкевич вынужден говорить об отсутствии угроз, даже если угрозы есть, тем более Вашингтон уже принял решение о сокращении военного присутствия в Европе.
