"At +30 it's impossible to open windows". Zhodino residents complain: the city stinks of shit
Residents of Zhodino have been complaining for several months about a strong smell of sewage and manure, which, according to them, covers the entire city. People are collecting signatures and demanding new inspections, but official services respond: everything is working in normal mode.

They promised there would be no smell
Zhodino residents learned about the construction of the accumulation pond near the village of Vostrau about two years ago. At that time, representatives of the water utility assured locals that modern treatment technologies would prevent the spread of unpleasant odors.
At first, it was so. In winter, the problem was barely noticeable, and in spring, the smell appeared only occasionally when the wind blew towards the city. Many thought it was the result of agricultural work in the fields.

But with the onset of heat, the situation changed.
“The peak is when it’s hot and the wind blows. The whole city smells as if a sewage truck just passed by. It can last for a day or two. Now, with temperatures over +30, it’s impossible to be outside or open windows at home. It just stinks of sewage and manure,” residents share on social media.
“No violations detected”
Meanwhile, official inspections do not confirm the problem.
The Zhodino Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Minsk Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection reported that specialists visited the site, took water and air samples, but found no exceedances of pollutants.
The responses state that the operation of the accumulation pond is carried out without violations, and the level of emissions complies with regulations.

“Minsk residents, stop going to the toilet!”
The lack of results after numerous appeals has turned the topic into the main subject of jokes in local chats.
“Minsk residents, stop going to the toilet!” — Zhodino residents ironize, hinting that not only sewage from their city enters the accumulation pond.

Now collecting signatures
Residents have started preparing a collective appeal to the State Control Committee and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The authors of the appeal request a repeated inspection of the accumulation pond with the participation of independent specialists and public representatives, as well as to introduce permanent control over its operation.
Another proposal is to regularly use odor neutralizing agents so that the stench does not spread throughout the city during the summer.
Now local activists are urging neighbors to join the signature collection and hope that a mass appeal will force officials to solve the problem.
