Belarusian School in Warsaw Announces Fifth Enrollment

The Belarusian School in Warsaw was founded in 2022 as an online and offline space for Belarusian children who found themselves in Poland and other countries around the world after the events of 2020. Four years ago, they started with 150 students and 15 teachers.

In 2024, the number of people willing to study in Warsaw and the school's branches in various Polish cities reached half a thousand, says the school director, Mr. Ales.

"However, the school's branches, which were in seven Polish cities, now operate independently. The school remained only in Warsaw, so there are significantly fewer children. The largest are primary classes. There are 7-8 students there, and the smallest class is the seventh. There are only two students there.

I know the approximate number of Belarusian students in Polish schools — about 30 thousand — so I am ashamed to name the actual number of children in Belarusian schools, of which there are several in the city. Therefore, I appeal to my compatriots: show patriotic activity," urges Mr. Ales.

Young Belarusians acquire knowledge in core subjects in schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums in the countries where they currently live, while subjects of the Belarusian component are studied specifically at the Belarusian School in Warsaw. Here, Belarusian language and literature, history, geography, Belarusian art, and world art are taught.

Offline classes take place on Saturdays. Children have the opportunity to interact with Belarusian-speaking peers and teachers.

Together they study, have fun during breaks, learn Belarusian songs and dances, make friends, and recall native and not-so-close places.

The school director, Mr. Ales, emphasizes that the educational concept in the institution is based on subject programs being linked to official Belarusian educational programs, which provides systematic learning.

"Our students do not fall behind their peers at home and, given favorable conditions, can continue their studies in Belarus without loss. Moreover, we have maintained the previous class classification. However, we lack the intrusive ideological component of Belarusian textbooks. Instead, teachers select materials from the best examples of Belarusian and world literature and culture that foster love for the Homeland, develop national identity, and loyalty to the principles of democracy. The teachers are highly experienced professionals, have high professional categories in education, and are winners of competitions. Many hold academic degrees as candidates and doctors of sciences," assures the director of the Belarusian School in Warsaw, Mr. Ales.

The Polish Ministry of Education annually provides Belarusian children with the opportunity to study for free in modernly equipped classrooms.
