Boris Isachenka, silver medalist in archery at the 1980 Olympic Games, has died, the Sports Department of the Brest Regional Executive Committee announced.
“It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Boris Valentinovich Isachenka — a legend of Soviet and Belarusian sport, a silver medalist at the 1980 Olympic Games, and an international master of sport of the USSR. His name is forever inscribed in the history of archery,” the statement said.
Boris Isachenka was born in Brest on December 26, 1958. He won silver at the Moscow Olympics.
After ending his sports career, Boris Isachenka dedicated himself to coaching. From 1997, he headed the Belarusian national archery team, and in 2002, he became a member of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus. Under his leadership, the Belarusian national team achieved significant success: winning the championship title at the European Championship and a silver medal at the World Championship.
