Deported Belarusian arrested in Russia. He secretly returned, but got caught when he went to the police for a certificate

43-year-old Vasily Karpitsky has already been expelled from Russia twice – and, apparently, a third attempt is in the works. But he seems to be drawn to it like a moth to a flame.

The Lomonosovsky District Court of Arkhangelsk on March 18, 2026, convicted Belarusian citizen Vasily Karpitsky for twice illegally crossing the Russian border, despite an entry ban.

A native of the village of Staiki, Orsha district, Vitebsk region, first encountered Russian justice in 2022: he was convicted in Naryan-Mar (the center of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Arkhangelsk region, Russia) for drunk driving. Karpitsky served his sentence in a penal colony, after which the authorities deported him to Belarus and banned him from entering Russia for five years.

But the ban did not stop him. Already on September 15, 2023, Karpitsky boarded the Orsha—Smolensk train and went to Russia again. He was detained and deported again – this time via Domodedovo. And a repeated five-year entry ban was announced.

However, this did not work either. Karpitsky somehow slipped into Russia in late 2024 or early 2025 and made his way to Naryan-Mar. He would have lived quietly, but the Belarusian personally came to the penal enforcement inspection for a certificate – that's how the police found out he was in Russia.

The court found Karpitsky guilty on two counts under Part 2 of Art. 322 of the Criminal Code of Russia (illegal border crossing) and sentenced him to 1 year and 3 months of forced labor with 10% of his earnings withheld for state revenue. Time spent in custody was counted at a rate of one day for two, and he was released.

The five-year entry ban, which was announced to Karpitsky twice, remains in effect – so after serving his forced labor, he will apparently face another deportation.
