Hluska resident Tatsiana found an unusual mushroom — *Mutinus ravenelii*, popularly known as the "stinking morel," on her household plot. This rare species originates from North America and belongs to saprophytic fungi, which live by decomposing organic matter, writes 'Commercial Courier'.
The woman accidentally brushed against the mushroom and broke it, but the unusual appearance of the find caught her attention. Its main feature, however, is a strong unpleasant odor, similar to the smell of carrion, therefore it is not used for food.
In Belarus, this species was first found in 2001 in the Vitebsk district. Now it is occasionally found in different parts of the country, most often in parks, gardens, and on dacha plots among wet grass. Usually, the mushroom appears from June to September.
*Mutinus ravenelii* is listed in the Red Book of Belarus as a rare introduced species. Therefore, if found, it is advised not to pick or damage it.
