«Kissed the Gate». Brest Residents Criticized the Organization of the Family Festival with Artik & Asti, Organized by «Savushkin»

Many city residents were looking forward to the concert for the 50th anniversary of the «Savushkin» company in Brest. However, some of the spectators ended up behind the fence, and people also complained about the crush.

On its anniversary and for the City Day in Brest, «Savushkin Product» organized an already traditional festival with competitions and activities for children and parents, photo zones, and a concert.

This year, the headliner of the event was the popular group Artik & Asti — originally a Ukrainian duo, now working in Russia.

The event was free, with open admission, and this ultimately led to a problem, as far from all who wished could get behind the stadium fence next to the park, where the evening part of the program unfolded.

«We came from another city in a company of eight people, stood in huge queues for a long time, and kissed the gate [i.e., couldn't get in]», — shared one Belarusian woman about her impressions of the festival's organization.

According to eyewitnesses, the security did not try to resolve the issue.

«It was just a terrible crush — it was impossible to neither enter nor exit. I turned to security asking them to sort out what was happening, to which I heard in response: «Turn around and leave». I explained that I physically could not get out of this crowd».

One of the young visitors, according to her mother, suffered an injury on the spot: «A guy tried to climb over a canopy, and riot police [OMON] pulled him down. As a result, during the arrest, my five-year-old daughter was knocked over. Medical assistance, by the way, was only at the stadium. We are home, and tomorrow we are going to the hospital».

«We were standing first and entered almost first, as they started letting people in at 8 PM, but even then almost all places were occupied. And we didn't sit anywhere», — say those who managed to get behind the fence. «But it turns out that 'Savushkin' employees entered first, and there wasn't enough room for everyone else. So this is a concert exclusively for employees».

Some believe that the consequences and negativity could have been avoided if the organizers had offered online registration.

«We live in the 21st century. Online registration could be organized: whoever made it, went to the concert. The festival was announced as part of City Day, not as a corporate event for those close to VIP seats near the stage.

I always wonder how quickly the lessons of Nyamiha were forgotten... We stood and didn't understand if they would let more people in, or if it was already over. Moreover, when a girl felt unwell in the crowd, she was also not allowed inside, and ambulance staff did not come to her».

Others believe that it's time to move to larger venues if «Savushkin» plans to continue inviting popular artists: the stadium holds only three thousand people, and it is no longer enough.

Although some Belarusians noted that part of the stadium territory remained unfilled, people were still not let in. It is believed that this was done for safety reasons during the fire and laser show.

At the same time, some of the city residents who got into the concert were satisfied.

«They closed the gate, probably because it was dangerous to let in more spectators. Among the people not near the stage were ordinary residents of Brest and guests. Judging by the fact that even under the invited guests near the stage, protective covering was laid on the field, it could not be trampled. The event was cool, it's just that not everyone was lucky enough to get in», — some spectators defended the organizers.
