Zeynep Mestán has been appointed head coach of the men's team of "Turgutluspor".
“We wish Zeynep Mestán, who will take charge of the new formation and technical structure of our club, success under the red and black emblem,” the club said in a statement.
22-year-old Mestán became the first woman in this position in the history of "Turgutluspor", writes Championat.com.
Club President Yılmaz Gençtürk stated that Mestán was chosen after studying her project and consulting with the coaching staff. At the presentation, Mestán demonstrated her football skills: the coach, in high heels, juggled the ball several times.
Mestán was born on July 30, 2004, in Izmir. She began her football career in 2019. She ended her career as a player early because she wanted to enroll in a sports faculty and make coaching her main goal.
The young woman also outlined a long-term goal — to bring "Turgutluspor" to the Turkish First League (the second strongest division) within five years. Currently, the club plays at the amateur level, which is the fourth division.
