Friends and colleagues of deceased journalist Oleg Anufriyenka: Expertise found no traces of poisoning
Farida Kurbangaleeva, a former colleague of Belarusian journalist Oleg Anufriyenka, who suddenly died in 2023, expressed the opinion that he might have been poisoned. Colleagues and friends dispute this version of his death. They believe that the Russian opposition sees poisonings everywhere.

35-year-old Oleg Anufriyenka worked as a producer of television news broadcasts and chief editor of informational programs for the "Current Time" channel in Prague. According to acquaintances, he was absolutely healthy, regularly checked his health, and did not abuse anything. Therefore, the situation where the journalist suddenly felt unwell for no apparent reason raised questions for many.
"Fears [about an unnatural cause of death] were mainly among the Russian part of both 'Radio Svoboda' and 'Current Time'. Many Russian stars gathered there after the war started, and they were quite seriously afraid for themselves. It is us, Belarusians, who are used to thinking 'oh my God, who needs us anyway'? At worst, they'll hit us on the head. But their mood was different," Oleg's friend told "Nasha Niva".
It was precisely at the initiative of colleagues from Russia that, in addition to standard examinations and tests for all possible diseases, a chemical examination was also conducted.
Farida Kurbangaleeva stated that as part of this, specialists in chemical protection suits came to "Radio Svoboda" to take samples from Oleg's workplace, swabs, and examine his computer and the desk where he sat.
The examination found no traces of poisoning. Regarding this version of death, specialists from the German clinic "Charité" (where Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was treated after being poisoned) were also consulted.
"Oleg's official diagnosis is autoimmune meningoencephalitis. Autoimmune diseases can indeed sometimes run an atypical course. Oleg reportedly had no symptoms of the disease before; everything happened suddenly, so, of course, it was difficult for everyone to believe that it happened naturally. What provoked such a sudden onset, when effectively after the first symptom, a person falls into a coma? He lost consciousness and never regained it. Therefore, legends and myths about poisoning, of course, exist, and they do not disappear," shares the interlocutor.
"Plus, Oleg indeed had a good position, but it was not public. There were more prominent colleagues on the channel, bigger 'enemies'."
Oleg Anufriyenka was expelled from the Faculty of Journalism at BSU at the end of 2010 for appearing in the campaign video "Hide Grandma's Passport". At that time, he worked for Belteleradiocompany on the "LAD" channel. Later, he worked at Tut.by. Over time, he moved to the Czech Republic and worked for the "Current Time" channel.
