The Supreme Court rejected the appeal of 36-year-old political prisoner, Mazyr blogger Maksim Shukanau, and his sentence of 4 years in a penal colony came into force. According to the prosecutor's office, the blogger was accused of being linked to the ByPol organization and assisting the Telegram channel "Belaruski Hajun".

It was previously known that the young man ran the YouTube channel Union Bell. He also, as the prosecutor's office claims:
- was a content editor on the ByPol and BelPol YouTube channels;
- created the BelPol logo;
- assisted the Telegram channel "Belaruski Hajun";
- participated in the protests after the 2020 elections in Minsk.
Shukanau was detained in February 2025. Previously, he and his fiancée Palina Zyl were in hiding to avoid contact with the state. However, in February 2025, they had to seek medical attention due to Maksim's deteriorating health, especially following his father's arrest. Palina was also arrested and initially sentenced to one year in a penal colony for participating in protests, and later transferred to a pre-trial detention center on another charge.
According to human rights defenders, Maksim suffers from epilepsy.
