Raccoon Senya has emerged from quarantine after an unexpected journey across the ocean and has received a ticket to a new life.
Now the raccoon can be seen at the animal park «Dipriz» in Baranovichi district, customs reported.
Raccoon Senya arrived in Belarus from the USA in mid-January in a sea container with passenger cars. When he was noticed, he was initially mistaken for a toy. The raccoon spent at least a month on the road. Out of hunger, he even gnawed at the car's interior.
How could the raccoon go so long without food? Raccoons are similar to bears — they build up fat in autumn and love to sleep in winter. These habits saved the animal from starvation. During this state of torpor, raccoons' vital processes slow down, and their body temperature slightly decreases.
