President Donald Trump's administration, in cooperation with the CIA, is developing a strategy to arm Kurdish formations to provoke a large-scale popular uprising inside Iran, CNN reports , citing sources.

The United States of America has a long and very complex history of relations with the Kurdish people — the largest ethnic minority in the world that does not have its own state.
Today, the number of Kurds is estimated at 25-30 million people, who compactly reside in the territories of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Armenia. This is a very diverse community: despite the fact that most of them are Sunni Muslims, they have many different dialects, and also differ in their cultural and political traditions.
Iranian Kurdish armed groups have several thousand fighters operating along the Iraqi-Iranian border, primarily in Iraqi Kurdistan.
After the start of military operations, many of these organizations issued public calls for Iranian soldiers to defect to their side. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) began striking Kurdish positions, using dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles.
CNN, citing numerous informed sources in American and Kurdish circles, claims that the CIA is working on a plan to arm Kurdish formations with the aim of provoking a broader uprising against the Iranian regime. According to them, the White House is already holding active negotiations with leaders of the Iranian opposition and Kurdish leaders in Iraq. The discussions concern the possibility of providing them with significant military aid.
According to sources, US President Donald Trump is personally involved in the diplomatic preparation of the operation, holding telephone conversations with key Kurdish figures, including the leader of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, Mustafa Hijri.
According to reports from American officials, the details of the future joint mission and how exactly the United States and the Kurds will interact as events unfold are being discussed.
The success of the plan directly depends on the position of Iraqi Kurds, as their territory is intended to become the main staging ground and corridor for arms transit.
High-ranking Kurdish representatives confirm that a ground operation in Western Iran could begin in the coming days. They believe that a unique chance for success has now emerged, and openly count on support from Washington and Jerusalem.
Why is this necessary?
According to sources familiar with the discussions, the tactical goal of arming the Kurds is to enable them to tie up Iranian security forces in battles on the outskirts of the country.
This should weaken control in central regions and allow unarmed Iranians in major cities to take to the streets. The plan is to avoid a repeat of the bloody crackdowns that occurred during past unrest, when protesters were left alone against security forces.
Some representatives of the American authorities see the Kurds as a tool for creating controlled chaos that would stretch the military resources of the Iranian regime. There are also plans to capture and hold territories in the northern part of Iran. This would allow for the creation of a special buffer zone, which would significantly improve Israel's security in the region. The CIA declined to comment on this information.
Clear Steps and Risks
CNN national security analyst Alex Plitsas believes that the United States is clearly trying to give a boost to the process of regime overthrow. Since the Iranian population generally lacks weapons, external support for Kurdish allies is seen by Washington as the only effective way to provoke a collapse of Iran's security structures and inspire society to take decisive action.
However, concerns are also being raised in American diplomatic circles regarding the possible consequences of such a move.
Meanwhile, Israel has already begun striking Iranian targets along the border, preparing the ground for a future offensive by Kurdish forces. An Israeli source told CNN that such strikes could intensify in the coming days.
At the same time, sources acknowledge: if Kurdish forces truly become part of an operation against the Iranian regime, support from the US and Israel must be significant. According to American intelligence estimates, Iranian Kurdish groups currently lack sufficient influence and resources to independently conduct a successful uprising against the government.
Furthermore, the Kurdish opposition structures themselves are disunited. They have different ideologies, competing interests, and a long history of internal conflicts. Therefore, some representatives of the Trump administration doubt whether these groups will be willing to act solely in Washington's interests. There is concern that proxy forces might prioritize their own goals over the overall US strategy.
Within the Trump administration, many officials privately warn of the deep frustration that has accumulated among the Kurds over years of cooperation with Washington.
Kurdish leaders have repeatedly complained that Americans use them and then abandon them to their fate. Many remember the withdrawal of troops from Syria, which was perceived as a betrayal, and now the Kurds are demanding firm political guarantees from the White House.
