According to the bank's statement, the vehicles have already been handed over to representatives of the institution and Ukrainian diplomats. Along with them, some personal belongings of the seven employees of the armored cash collection team were also returned.
The vehicles were detained by the National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary, but have now been returned to their rightful owners.
After inspection, it was found that the vehicles had equipment damage. Bank lawyers recorded all detected malfunctions on site. When the transport is returned to Ukraine, an additional assessment of the incurred losses will be carried out.
However, Hungary has not yet returned the money and valuables that were in the armored vehicles. According to the bank's information, this amounts to about 40 million dollars, 35 million euros, and 9 kilograms of bank gold.
The incident occurred on March 5, when Ukrainian cash collectors traveling in service vehicles from Austria to Ukraine, transporting cash as part of cooperation between state banks, were detained in Hungary. Hungarian authorities stated that the confiscation of funds was a response to Ukraine's alleged blocking of the "Druzhba" oil pipeline, and that the cash collectors were suspected of money laundering.
On March 10, the Hungarian government made a decision allowing the confiscated money and gold bars to be held for at least 60 days. The document was signed by the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
In response, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that the actions of the Hungarian authorities could be viewed as state economic pressure and, effectively, "state terrorism."
