Ugandan President's Son Demanded a Billion Dollars from Turkey and the Most Beautiful Woman in the Country as His Wife

Ugandan President's son, Commander of the country's army Muhoozi Kainerugaba, made a series of sharp and provocative statements against Turkey on social media.

Kainerugaba claimed that Turkey would allegedly be unable to resist Uganda in the event of war and even stated that he would be met as a hero in Istanbul. Therefore, he demanded one billion dollars from Turkey and "the most beautiful woman in the country" as his wife. And if Turkey refused, Kainerugaba threatened to close the Turkish embassy in Uganda.

Kainerugaba also expressed other strange ideas, such as proposing to send a large number of people to Israel, allegedly for its defense.

Such statements may be related to strained relations between Uganda and Turkey, including due to influence in Somalia. Uganda has maintained its troops in that country since 2007 as part of the African Union mission. For almost two decades, Ugandan soldiers have participated in battles against the "Al-Shabaab" group, suffering losses and significant expenses. Turkey appeared in Somalia later, but, according to Muhoozi Kainerugaba, it did so very effectively. It built a military base in the country's capital, Mogadishu, obtained contracts to manage the port and airport, and invested in the country's infrastructure development.

Additionally, the fact that the Ugandan authorities support Israel, while the Turkish leadership often criticizes it, also plays a role.

Similar statements by Kainerugaba have caused international scandals before. His father, 81-year-old Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, has previously had to apologize to other countries for his son's remarks.
