US President Donald Trump has given the European Union a two-month deadline to complete a trade deal with the US, after which he will raise tariffs to a "significantly higher level." He wrote about this on the social network Truth Social.

Trump reiterated his threat to impose higher tariffs on goods from the EU, continuing to pressure European leaders to fulfill the terms of the trade agreement reached last year in Scotland.

The President stated that during a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, he informed her of the deadline for concluding the agreement by July 4.

"I agreed to give her until our country's 250th anniversary, otherwise, unfortunately, their tariffs will immediately skyrocket to significantly higher levels," Trump said.

Von der Leyen said on social media on Thursday that the conversation with Trump focused on the war in the Middle East, but also touched on trade issues.
