At "Dukorski Maentak" they explained why not all animals in their zoo look appealing
Employees of "Dukorski Maentak" comprehensively responded on their Threads page to accusations from visitors that the animals in their zoo are allegedly kept in terrible conditions, which affects their health.

Most attention in this response was paid to explaining the condition of a yak, which unpleasantly shocks visitors with an open wound on its body:
"The yak, or more precisely the calf, was born as a result of difficult natural labor. The female yak experienced a uterine prolapse and underwent surgery. Now the female is doing well, as you can see in the video.
But her baby was less fortunate. As a result of aplasia, even in the womb, an open wound formed on it. If this had happened in the wild, both would not have survived.
This wound cannot heal naturally: a piece of skin is missing by nature. When it was small, necessary treatment was provided, and an attempt was made to artificially create a piece of skin using a special spray, which, unfortunately, did not yield results.
Do we understand that the wound looks terrible? Of course. But the animal is under regular supervision and receives adequate care for its condition. At the moment, according to veterinarians, the wound can only be "closed" with a complex plastic surgery. But even here there are many nuances and risks to the animal's life.
This wound does not affect the yak's overall condition and well-being; since childhood, it has had no problems with eating or mobility."
The second most problematic animal, which visitors drew attention to, is a lame roe deer:
"The male has a ligament sprain for reasons unknown to us (was playing, got scared, slipped). Such an injury takes a long time to heal and is accompanied by lameness.

The video also mentions the thinness of the animals. Bones are visible not because the pet is underfed — their weight is within the normal range. The molting process is currently underway, and "fluffiness" is lost, hence such an "un-Instagrammable" look.
The second roe deer was brought to us by caring people; they found it by the road. Its mobility quickly returned to normal, and we are still "catching up" on its required weight.
Employees at "Dukorski Maentak" also explained why some sheep and rams are unshorn:
"Animals are not always willing to cooperate with such procedures (shearing and hoof trimming). And then, in order not to harm the animal during the process, we wait for a more favorable 'mood' day. All residents of the zoo are housed in enclosures of appropriate sizes and parameters, as prescribed by law. Every animal is guaranteed to receive all necessary and possible veterinary medical care. Feeding and cleaning are carried out according to the schedule and diet for each individual species."
Zoo employees point out that the pets there regularly reproduce, which "is impossible to imagine in an uncomfortable environment for animals or in cases of illness." They also remind that this institution regularly nurses animals and birds that could not survive in the wild on their own, as well as domestic cats and dogs that "kind" people abandon at the gates.
