After the World Cup match, Japan fans cleaned up the stands at the stadium
Japan national team fans surprised again: at the World Cup, after the game against the Netherlands national team, they cleaned up the stands after themselves.

This tradition is not new and dates back to the last century, writes Onliner.by.
Last night, the Japanese managed to pull off a mini-sensation, earning one point in the match against the Netherlands (2:2). The match was emotional: Japan came back twice, with the last goal scored in the 89th minute.
After the match, Japanese fans cleaned up after themselves at the stadium.
This tradition is believed to have originated at the end of the last century, and today such actions have become common for Japanese fans at World Cups, Olympic Games, and other major sports competitions in which Japan participates.
At the last World Cup, Japanese fans attended the opening match between host country Qatar and Ecuador, and then helped clean up the stands, even though their team wasn't playing in that match.
When asked why they do it, the Japanese reply: "Tatsu tori ato wo nigasazu." A literal translation from Japanese is: "A bird leaves nothing behind." The general meaning is: "Leave it as you found it."
Such behavior by the Japanese is a manifestation of Japanese culture, where great importance is placed on the cleanliness of public spaces and respect for others.
In the group stage, the Japanese are yet to play against Sweden and Tunisia.
