"Just don't copy word for word." "Kuznechik" store, suspiciously similar to Polish "Żabka", opens in Grodno
A new grocery store called "Kuznechik" is preparing to open in Grodno, at Gorkogo Street, 92. Its design duplicates the popular Polish convenience store chain "Żabka".
Users of the social network Threads drew attention to the unusual object.
Belarusians write that "Kuznechik" has a lot in common with "Żabka".
The facade and sign of the Grodno store are made in the signature green shades of the Polish brand.
On the glass are images of a hot dog and a cup of coffee with the inscriptions "Hungry?" and "Hot coffee?", which replicates Żabka's concept of quick snacks.
How Belarusians reacted
Some commentators reacted to the news with irony, criticizing the creators for lacking original ideas and blindly copying: "Just don't copy word for word," "When you can't come up with anything of your own...". Some were indignant, wondering why "Kuznechik" (grasshopper) and not "Konik" (pony/small horse, also sometimes used for grasshopper).
Others expressed skepticism about the viability of a single store. They reminded that Żabka's strength lies in its huge franchise, established logistics, and thousands of stores across the country, which allows for cost reduction.
Finally, some users saw no problem with it, noting that the convenience store format is popular worldwide, and the appearance of new jobs and the absence of long queues are always a plus for customers.
