Sherpa guide spent six days on Everest without water, food, and oxygen supplies. He was rescued
On May 29, 52-year-old guide Dawa Sherpa accompanied a Polish alpinist during their descent from Everest. The attempt to reach the summit was halted due to the Pole's frostbite.
For an unknown reason, the Sherpa was left alone near the so-called "Yellow Band" — a distinctive rock formation. The alpinists eventually reached their camp, but Dawa did not make it there, Bild writes.
The company Himalayan Traverse, where the Sherpa works, did not send rescue teams to search for him. Only on June 3 did another firm organize a helicopter search flight, but without success.
As a result, Dawa began descending alone. On June 4, he was found by a team collecting trash on Everest: unexpectedly, people saw the Sherpa crawling on the ground.
A helicopter transported the exhausted and frostbitten man to a hospital in Kathmandu. During the rescue operation, he could barely speak.
It is possible that he managed to cover almost three kilometers on his own.
According to The Himalayan Times, the spring climbing season of 2026 on Everest was a record-breaking one: 494 climbers in 51 teams attempted to ascend. Five people died.
