She thanked Trump and Cole for their efforts to release political prisoners
"On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, we honor the ideals that continue to inspire people worldwide: freedom, dignity, and the right of every nation to choose its own future," wrote Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on July 4 on X.
She expressed deep gratitude to President Donald Trump, his entire administration, and Special Envoy John Cole for "their humanitarian efforts to bring [Belarusian] political prisoners home."
Let us remind that thanks to the efforts of the American administration and visits to Minsk, from June 21 to March 19, four large groups of political prisoners were released: June 21 — 14 people, September 11 — 51, December 13 — 123. On March 19, the largest group was released — 250 people.
Currently, according to "Viasna," there are 860 political prisoners in Belarus. On July 1, it became known that 28 people were pardoned, but their names were not disclosed.
