Belarusian surgeons for the first time were able to replace a patient's entire aorta
Belarusian cardiosurgeons for the first time in the country performed a complete aortic replacement on a female patient with chronic vessel dissection and a hereditary connective tissue disease, writes BelTA.

The operation was performed by specialists from the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology". Doctors replaced the entire aorta — from the aortic valve to the iliac arteries. Previously, such complex operations were performed on Belarusian patients only in specialized clinics abroad.
Prior to this, operations on separate sections of the aorta had already been performed in Belarus, but a complete prosthetic replacement of the vessel was performed for the first time. Belarusian cardiosurgeons had previously undergone appropriate training at the Russian National Medical Research Center of Surgery named after Academician Boris Petrovsky.
The operation was performed by a multidisciplinary team under the leadership of Sergei Spiridonov, Deputy Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology".
According to the doctors, the patient's aorta is now fully treated, and there is no need for new operations. However, due to the genetic disease, she will continue to be monitored, as problems with other blood vessels may arise in the future.
On average, about 15 patients who may require a complete aortic replacement turn to the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology" annually. Doctors note that the development of this direction will allow such high-tech operations to be performed in Belarus without the need to send patients to foreign clinics.
