Minsk Resident Wanted to Transfer Money Without Commission and Lost 150 Rubles
What was the bank's response?

A reader who encountered a commission when transferring Chinese yuan at Belarusbank contacted Onliner.by. He reported that after 15,000 yuan were credited to the account, about 2% — almost 150 rubles — was withheld from the amount.
The man claims that before the transfer, he clarified the conditions at the bank branch and received information that there would be no additional commission for yuan transfers from another bank's account, unless the sending bank itself withheld its commission.
But five days after the credit, he discovered that about 2% — almost 150 rubles — had been withheld from the amount.
— I clarified this point at the branch before the transfer, so I was confident that there would be no additional costs, — he insists.
According to the client, after contacting the bank, he was informed that they could not consider the claim because the employee's consultation was not recorded.
As explained by Belarusbank, there is indeed a commission for crediting funds to individuals' accounts in foreign currency, including Chinese yuan, unless other conditions are stipulated by agreement.
The remuneration amounts to 2% of the transaction currency amount in Belarusian rubles equivalent, but not more than 700 rubles. The commission is calculated according to the National Bank exchange rate on the day of the operation.
Belarusbank clarified that such a fee is not charged if an agreement for the corresponding type of transfer has been concluded between the bank and the payer, as well as in a number of other cases. Among them are transfers from accounts of individuals opened at the bank itself, operations via the instant payment system, returns of unexecuted international transfers, and certain social payments.
Information about the commission amount before the operation can be found in the Bank's Fee Schedule on the Belarusbank website, as well as through the contact center or at a branch.
