Yauhen Karavulau from CC: "I was offered to cooperate with the KGB. And I said 'yes'"

Yauhen Karavulau, who recently contended for the position of Secretary of the Coordination Council, wrote that the KGB has been terrorizing his family in Belarus for three months, and detailed how the KGB officers tried to involve him in their orbit.

On June 25, Karavulau received a call from his grandmother's phone, but instead of her, a man identifying himself as Zhenya was on the line and said: "You know who we are."

Before this, Karavulau's relatives had already been searched repeatedly, and once, a photo from a Minsk apartment was even sent from an unknown number. But this form of communication with Lukashenka's special services was new to him.

According to the man, he immediately wrote to his CC faction "Nastaŭ" and human rights defenders; he was advised to quietly end the conversation, but the KGB officer forced him to continue with threats against his relatives. The conversation lasted about 45 minutes, "they were most interested in the Coordination Council: how it works and what it does." But Karavulau, according to him, said nothing more than what can be found on the internet.

"At one point, I was offered to cooperate with the KGB. At first, I replied 'uh-huh,' but they demanded an unambiguous answer, and under pressure, fearing for my family, I said 'yes.' I was also ordered not to tell anyone about this conversation, but it was already too late."

And only after the KGB officers took Karavulau's contact number and demanded an SMS code to log into his Telegram account:

"That sobered me up. I didn't receive the code, so I said that, added that I wasn't going to send anything, and hung up."

After that, Yauhen was still texted from his mother's phone, demanding that he get in touch immediately, but "I blocked their accounts, and no one contacted me anymore."

Later, his relatives were not left in peace: they came to their work and home, confiscated equipment, his mother was interrogated twice, and "they asked her to tell me that they 'just want to talk'."

"And this morning, they called from my grandmother's phone. I immediately blocked them again. They said they would come back tomorrow evening and take the phone to 'just talk'," Karavulau shares.

And at the end, he gives everyone a piece of advice:

"If you receive a call from the KGB, including from your relatives' numbers, do not engage in conversation. Block them immediately, because if you start talking, they won't let go. And immediately write to human rights defenders; they will help."
