Brigitte Bardot's Personal Items Sold at Paris Auction for Nearly One Million Euros
An auction of personal items belonging to French actress Brigitte Bardot, held in Paris, raised almost 1 million euros. This is nearly 20 times more than the preliminary estimated value of all lots, which was around 50,000 euros, writes The Guardian.
285 items from the actress's homes in Saint-Tropez and Paris were put up for sale. Among them were clothes, accessories, furniture, self-portraits, and musical instruments.
The most expensive lots included two dog collars, purchased by a Russian buyer for 9,400 euros, a self-portrait for 40,000 euros, a typewriter for 4,600 euros, and two guitars, sold for 8,600 and 1,900 euros respectively.
The funds raised will be donated to Bardot's animal welfare foundation and to her son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier. Ghislaine Kalmels, head of the foundation, stated that this auction was a continuation of a sale the actress herself organized back in 1987. At that time, Bardot sold her most valuable possessions to establish the foundation. According to Kalmels, the actress's fight for animal protection continues thanks to the new auction.
However, Brigitte Bardot's husband, Bernard d'Ormale, criticized the sale. He called it a disrespect to the actress's memory and stated in an interview with AFP that Bardot's personal items should have been preserved as part of her legacy. According to him, the actress herself would not have agreed to such a sale.
