In the capital of Canada, they decided to rename a street named after Trump
The Ottawa City Council unanimously supported the start of the procedure to rename Trump Avenue in the Central Park neighborhood of the Canadian capital, according to Canadian TV channel CTV News.
The street was named after Donald Trump a very long time ago, even before he became president for the first time. The thing is that the street names in this area, since its development, have been associated with New York, and before entering politics, Trump was known in that city as a developer.
Consultations with residents of Trump Avenue will be conducted by city council member Riley Brockington. Residents will be offered to choose a new name — it can be related to New York themes or be completely neutral. The final option is planned to be submitted for consideration by the city council in 2027.
This is not the first attempt to rename the street. During Trump's first presidential term, residents already voted on this issue. At that time, the result was even: 21 households voted for renaming, 21 — against, and another 20 abstained. As a result, the street name was then decided to be kept.
