Meet The Beatles: Director of new films about the Liverpool Four introduces main cast
The cast for the biopics about The Beatles has been approved. Director Sam Mendes will shoot four films at once — a separate film for each musician of the Liverpool Four.

Paul Mescal, known for his roles in "Normal People" and "Gladiator 2," will play Paul McCartney; "Saltburn" star Barry Keoghan will become Ringo Starr; Joseph Quinn, known for Marvel's "Fantastic Four," will play George Harrison; and John Lennon will be embodied by Harris Dickinson, who was recently seen in the film "Babygirl" with Nicole Kidman, writes the BBC.
The director announced the new project on stage at the CinemaCon festival in Las Vegas last Monday.
"Each film tells the story from one of the guys' perspectives," he said at the event. "They intersect in different ways — sometimes they overlap, sometimes they don't. These are four completely different people. Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little deeper. And together, these four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history."
The films will be released almost simultaneously — in April 2028.
"I just always felt that the band's story was too big to fit into one film, and turning it into a mini-series didn't seem right either," the director explained.
Irish actor Paul Mescal is 29 years old. He rose to prominence with his role in the BBC series "Normal People" in 2020. He then starred in the films "Aftersun," for which he was nominated for an Oscar, and "All of Us Strangers," and also played the lead role in the "Gladiator" sequel. Besides Paul McCartney, he is preparing to play another famous Briton — William Shakespeare — in the adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel "Hamnet."
Harris Dickinson became a star through his roles in "Maleficent," "The King's Man," "Triangle of Sadness," and "Where the Crawdads Sing," and then played Nicole Kidman's lover in "Babygirl." The 28-year-old Briton was nominated for a BAFTA award for his role in the series "A Murder at the End of the World." He is one of the bookmakers' favorites for the role of the next James Bond.
Barry Keoghan likely bears the closest physical resemblance to his Beatle — drummer Ringo. The Irish actor is the oldest of the acting quartet (32 years old) and one of Hollywood's brightest stars. In 2023, he received a BAFTA award and an Oscar nomination for "The Banshees of Inisherin," and then led the cast of "Saltburn."
Joseph Quinn played Eddie Munson in the fourth season of the Netflix series "Stranger Things," starred in the film "A Quiet Place: Day One," and appeared alongside Mescal in "Gladiator 2." Before playing Beatles guitarist Harrison, the 31-year-old Londoner will appear as Johnny Storm (Human Torch) in "Fantastic Four: First Steps" and two films about the Avengers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This is not the first time a film about The Beatles has been made, but it is the first time that all living members of the band and the heirs of those who have passed away have granted the creators full rights to their life stories and music.
