Belarusian Railway explained why it was necessary to remove comfortable trains of the Polish company PESA from routes and replace them with ordinary locomotive-hauled trains. Polish diesel trains, it is alleged, were unable to operate in the severe frost conditions that have set in the country.
BCh noted that before each trip, trains undergo mandatory technical inspection, however, not all equipment is adapted to very low temperatures. Therefore, rolling stock manufactured in European Union countries was temporarily removed from some popular routes. The changes affected the Minsk — Vitsebsk and Minsk — Mahilyow routes.
«In this regard, from February 5, 2026, diesel trains manufactured by the Polish company PESA, DP6 series, on certain sections of the Belarusian Railway have been replaced by trains formed from locomotive-hauled carriages. These are trains No. 704/703, No. 712/711 and No. 714/713 Minsk — Vitsebsk — Minsk,» — the Belarusian Railway stated.
At the same time, BCh emphasized that after repair, these diesel trains will return to their previous routes.
It is also noted that, despite snowfalls and frosts, the Belarusian Railway operates in normal mode. From January 8 to February 2, more than 21,000 railway workers were involved in eliminating the consequences of adverse weather.
