Lukashenko used a word during negotiations in Oman that left the Arabic translator flummoxed.
Translator Evgenia Lysenko spoke about a small difficulty she encountered when translating Lukashenko.
Evgenia Lysenko translated for Lukashenko at the negotiations in Oman. She said that working at these negotiations was not very difficult.
The translator noted that Lukashenko clearly formulates his thoughts.
"Personally, for me, these are some of the most concrete negotiations, it was the most comfortable to translate. Everything is structured, understandable material that is presented. The formulations are very clear. So everything is clear," Lysenko shared on the "Time of the First" program.
But the translator still had to face one difficulty. Lukashenko inserted a word that was not so easy to translate.
"We were in Oman. And the president said that Belarusians, when they reach any agreements, they always fulfill them. At the same time, he said that we keep our word and we don’t 'act up.' It is possible in principle to translate the word 'act up' into Arabic, it was quite clear to the locals what was meant. But still, it was necessary to think for a split second about how this should be translated," the translator said.
Lysenko explained that it was necessary to try to maintain the accuracy of the quote and at the same time convey the informal context.
