Belarusian Accused of Train Explosions on BAM Sentenced to 22 Years in Russia
The 2nd Eastern District Military Court sentenced 54-year-old Belarusian citizen Sergei Yeremeev, accused in the case of explosions on the BAM, to 22 years in prison, of which he will spend five in prison and the rest in a strict regime penal colony.
The court established that Yeremeev "joined a terrorist community for a monetary reward." He received homemade explosive devices and, upon arriving in Buryatia, installed them on tank cars with diesel fuel of two freight trains.
The explosions on the BAM occurred at the end of November 2023 — one in the Severomuysky Tunnel, the second — on a bypass road. As a result of the explosions, tank cars caught fire and railway infrastructure was damaged. The damage is estimated at more than 102 million rubles. Shortly after the explosions, a suspect was detained — Belarusian citizen Sergei Yeremeev. In court, he explained that he wanted to paralyze railway traffic to prevent the transportation of military cargo.
