In Gomel, an electrician caused eight short circuits in someone else's apartment and burned out appliances

A resident of house No. 3 on Bahdanava Street contacted the editorial office of "Mocnyja Naviny" (Strong News). An ordinary morning on December 2 turned into a month of panic and fear for her own life for the Gomel resident. The cause of all this was an electrician's visit to the neighbors, which ended in a utility fiasco and the breakdown of half of her household appliances.

It all started around 9 AM. The light suddenly went out in the girl's apartment — at that time, the washing machine and dishwasher were working. Stepping out onto the landing, the girl saw an electrician tinkering in the neighbor's electrical panel.

Then, in the kitchen, the microwave "exploded". The owner again ran out to the master, but he claimed he didn't understand anything himself.

Despite calls to service 115 with a request to remove the questionable specialist, the "work" continued.

The result was another 5-6 short circuits in a row, as a result of which the coffee machine, microwave, steam cleaner, router along with its wires, and the kitchen outlet burned out.

The microwave was later repaired, but there's silence regarding the rest of the appliances, says the Gomel resident. She requested an investigation report but was refused.

«I was officially refused information regarding the investigation of the incident. They don't want to pay for the damage. The electrician repaired only the microwave at his own expense, but there's silence about the other appliances,» the girl says.

Besides financial losses, the situation has taken a toll on her nerves. After the short circuits, the old wiring in the apartment could bring any surprise.

«I've been living in panic for a month. I'm simply scared to go to work — I'm afraid the apartment will catch fire. No one checked the condition of the wires after what happened. It's simply terrifying,» the girl says.

The Gomel resident does not intend to put up with all this. She plans to file a lawsuit in court for compensation for moral and material damages. She is also thinking about filing a statement with the prosecutor's office, demanding an investigation into the activities of the utility company management, which allows such specialists to work.

What the Housing and Utilities Office (ZhEU) says

«Mocnyja Naviny» contacted the ZhEU for a comment. The legal department replied that they are acting according to the law and within two weeks after the incident held a commission meeting to cover the damage, after which they sent a written response to the victim. They stated that they admit the electrician's fault and do not refuse payments.

For this, the Gomel resident needs to provide documents from the service centers she contacted for appliance repair — indicating the amounts spent.

The microwave has already been repaired and returned with a warranty period according to an act, «in which she signed that she had no claims». They are waiting for documents regarding the coffee machine and the rest.

«In case she cannot provide these documents, the decision for our enterprise to voluntarily cover the damage will, of course, not be considered,» the company said.

And they added that the Gomel resident has the right to go to court if she does not agree to settle the dispute amicably.
